NY Fashion Week Spring 2010: Christian Siriano
So, K. of Fab Over Forty had planned to cover Christian Siriano for me yesterday, but turns out it was the hottest ticket of the season. Hundreds of chicettes were rejected at the door because of overbooking, and celebs filled the front row (Tori Spelling, Kelly Rowland, Mena Suvari). And judging by all of the photos I’ve seen, it was a stunner!
K. was lucky enough to get a behind-the-scenes look at the hair and make-up (gorgeous!) and watched the runway show on the screen in the Tents. Here’s what she had to say about what she saw:
“The inspiration of Christian’s show was the beach and the ocean and waves. The colors he used were taupes/sand, beautiful shades of the blue ocean, and a few rare pieces were outside of the blue/sand theme and were in a shade of red – a rusty red.”
“The fabrics were flowy silks with ruffles and tucks that fluttered like waves when the models moved. All the clothes were so wearable and beautiful, I would take any one of them home with me! (except the printed catsuit, which seemed oddly out of place in the collection.) He really did an outstanding job. Overhearing comments in the lobby from other viewers, they felt the same way – and they felt this was better than his last show. The dress that everyone gasped at was, I believe, the third from the last one on the runway. It was a sand color with a fitted, sequined bodice with a gathered flowing skirt.”
Thanks, K., for catching all of this – it looks amazing! What else is amazing? Christian’s S/S footwear and handbag collection with Payless. The five shoe silhouettes and two accompanying handbags in the new collection are “dramatic works of art conveying strength and textural tribal themes with the use of mottled prints and hides combined with raw metal sequins and details.” The collection is expected in Payless stores next February. I know I cannot wait to purchase. Cheers to affordable luxury!
