Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week F/W 2011: DKNY
By Megan Averbuch, Guest Blogger and Fashion Week Correspondent
Donna Karan said herself after the show, “God bless the girl who doesn’t wear all black!” As the original New York girl, this DKNY collection did feature a lot of black and was definitely chock-full of the “New York Girl.” Surrounded by neon lights that screamed ” SOMETHING NEW YORK” (just like the invites!) in a super-cool space just south of Lincoln Center in Chelsea, DKNY presented a fun collection (which Ms. Karan noted was “for that girl who does it ALL. She works, but then heads out at night. She is all around town and a true New Yorker!”) Sounds like someone we might know (ahem, Ms. Donna Karan herself, perhaps?!).
Pops of color throughout the collection, in the form of bold color-blocking, included oranges, pinks, red and blue. Plus, jackets, jackets, jackets! This included tons of blazers great for day to night, as well as fur (faux?!), tweed and leather. Another tip? Layering up for fall 2011 is BACK! And DKNY did it right.
So now that the show’s over, what’s up for Ms. DK? When speaking with her after the show, she was super excited about a charity project she is involved with called “Hearts for Haiti” (we’re loving the name) and plans to work on that now that this season’s over. Until next season…
