Herve Leger: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week S/S 2012
By Sarah Kleinhenz, Fashion Week Correspondent
For all of you gold lovers out there, the spring collection of Herve Leger will have you sprinting in your stilettos to snatch up their latest goodies. There was sort of a gladiator-meets-tribal feel to the looks for next season. Hair was slicked back and makeup was at a minimum, which allowed the clothes to take center stage.
The idea behind this collection was to convey a story of architectural and indigenous opulence. To “portray the woman as being powerful and majestic while embodying the golden Age of Americana.” When you think of Herve Leger, you usually imagine the ever-famous “bandage” dress, which put them on the map (if you ask me). Celebrities from Beyonce and Kate Winslet to Victoria Beckham and Rachel Bilson, have all worn this infamous dress. It’s a showstopper indeed and clings to the body, leaving no room for error.
Well, girlies, spring has some less tight-fitting and a little more loose-fitting options (whew). They’ll be perfect for nights when you just need to breathe a little (or eat whatever you want!). It’s a collection comprised entirely of dress designs, and all of them were in gorgeous neutral hues. Adding accents like foil, fringe and beading helps amp up the sexiness and make the dresses a little more dressy. I’ve been a big fan of Max Azria for years – his other clothing lines have been my go-to for everything from casual to eveningwear. He hit it out of the park with his HL line.
If you’re in the mood to mix up your usually-calm neutral palette, this collection is one to check out. You’ll love all the details put into each design. Fun, edgy, feminine and sexy describe what this collection is all about. My obsession from all of the spring looks? The ice bandage fringe frock, pictured below. I DIE! It’s definitely something that needs to find its way into my closet – immediately!
