Who Can Resist a Good Cardigan?
Not sure about you, but I’ve always been obsessed with the cardigan. Such a closet staple, and if you don’t want to rock it alone, you can always layer it over something. Can’t. go. wrong. That’s why I was excited to learn about the fun line, Cardigan by Lynne Hiriak. I took one look and became immediately obsessed. Lynne’s designed for the likes of Michael Kors and Derek Lam and started this genius concept “to explore and push the boundaries of one limitless item.” Why not, right? What’s more, Rachel Bilson’s a fan, and you know how I feel about her style (swoon). So, we caught up with LH this past week and asked her burning (cardigan!) questions…here’s what she said.
I Heart Heels: What’s your favorite way to wear a cardigan? (mine is belted!)
Lynne Hiriak: Boyfriend, slouchy…I steal them all from the men’s line!
IHH: How do you continue to be inspired with your designs of such a basic piece…what drives your creativity?
LH: My very creative friends who always give me new ideas! I also love vintage sweaters and am always hunting and seeking pieces I’ve never seen. Plus, I love vintage magazines. Right now, I’m in the 80’s decade of Vogue magazines.
IHH: Why do you think everyone loves the cardigan so much?
LH: Cardigans are sentimental pieces. They remind us of our childhood, our parents – and they keep us cozy. Cozy memories are always something we want to hang onto!
IHH: Can you suggest a couple of styles great for the holidays?
LH: I love the Daphne shawl to perk up those winter doldrums. Talk about the definition of cozy! Of course, the Versaille sequin cardigan is my all-time favorite cardigan. It makes me feel very French and chic! I can get away with wearing sequins during the day when I wear it with a pair of worn-in jeans. The scarves are addictive. They’ve become collector items for Cardigan fans!
IHH: What will be the next cardigan you add to your already-200-piece-collection?
LH: Well, uh now, it’s become about 300 pieces (oops!). I can’t wait for my spring Baja-inspired cardigan to come in! I’ve been “California Dreaming” already since the weather’s starting to get cold!
