Rebecca Minkoff: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week F/W 2012
By Tiffany Piñero, Fashion Week Correspondent
Last time we saw Rebecca Minkoff at Fashion Week, she was days away from meeting her new baby boy. Well, the baby weight was nowhere in sight (!), but the style stuck around, and in terms of ready-to-wear it might have even multiplied.
Aside from the runway show, there was the show…! Opening it all was Theophilus London, which I shamefully hadn’t heard of until that moment (that’s so “Rebecca Minkoff” to introduce me to something so cool). It was riveting. The energy was flowing from the performance to the first look and it was a banger.
A brocade jacket in an aggressive silhouette over a sexy sheer plum top and loose sequined pants – wow. When you start with something like that, I know I myself don’t really need to see much else! But I did, and I really liked what I saw.
The fall 2012 collection seems to have a sharper edge to it then previous collections, but where it goes more subtle on feminine touches it picks up in interesting textures. Another favorite look of mine was a pair of shorts with a yellow snakeskin trim – you could feel the youthful charm. The coats were a mix of her true bad-to-the-bone roots in moto-chic styles, but there were also a few oversized designs that echoed an elegance to plop on top of, as the designer put it, this “fearless and unfettered” collection.
Like? No, we love.
