If you've got curly or wavy hair, use super-moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, and depending on the intensity of the curl, use a straightening-formula leave-in to weigh it down and smooth it out. Some very-curly-haired people I know get light keratin treatments and that leaves them with perfect, beachy waves. I have wavy hair and am currently in love with Sally Hershberger Curvaceous leave-in cream.
Best-case scenario, you can just let it air-dry and then fix any errant pieces with a curling iron and/or John Freida Secret Weapon. If you blow-dry your hair or it's already straight, don't worry about adding curl until it's dry. Then go in with a curling iron (clipless is best, but either works) and randomly put some curls in, winding the curler away from your face. When you're satisfied, mess up your hair a little with your fingers, and smooth a little with the brilliant, irreplaceable Secret Weapon!
