My Fourth of July Attire
I hope you all had an amazing Fourth of July! Feels so weird having it smack in the middle of the week, no? What a nice mid-week break, yet so hard to get back in the swing of things (my mind, admittedly is still on the pool and frozen yogurt…). So since I can’t totally shake the mid-week holiday, let’s just talk about what I wore, shall we?
little C. my 2 1/2-year-old son rode along in our annual neighborhood parade and we spent the afternoon on Tuesday decorating his float (aka red Radio Flyer wagon). Can I tell you it was the cutest thing ever? Not just the float, but everything. little C., the parade with all the kids…oh, if I could bottle it all up! Down south it’s been 102 degrees pretty much every day, so by morning parade time, it was already a sweltering 90 degrees. I decided to wear my striped Vince tee (I found on sale at TJMaxx for a cool $40) since it’s super lightweight and comfy. I knew I would be chasing him around everywhere with the camera. 🙂
I paired it with my navy cuffed BCBGeneration shorts (also comfy) I bought at Dillard’s at the beginning of summer (and the only cuffed shorts I’ve found I love…they have stretttttch). For holidays such as this, the accessories are so much a part of the fun! I was happy to wear the new ribbon “mush” flip-flop wedges (yep, I even like a little lift in my sandals) I received last month from Teva. They’re red, so they were a perfection addition to my otherwise monochromatic outfit. I know folks complain about flip-flops not being stylish, but let’s get real. I’m a mom; it’s hot. Deal with it! Not to mention, these really are cute. No? I literally wore them every other day at the beach. (Side note and fun fact: The first gift I received from D. when we were were dating was a pair of black skinny Tevas…no joke! He thought I was rugged…I so fooled him…wink.)
And my standby summer accessory is the Hat Attack Julia floppy fedora. Honestly, I just don’t go many places without it. It keeps my face shaded and looks so effortlessly cool with most anything. I love how it’s not one bit over-the-top (I don’t like to be the center of attention), yet it still makes that perfectly chic statement. I can’t, and won’t, live without this hat.
