Celebrating National Batik Day
Batik. You might not have heard of it, right? But just look! It’s beauuuuuuutiful! Today is actually National Batik Day in Indonesia (it’s the fourth anniversary!) and I’ve been asked to help celebrate it by wearing an undeniably gorgeous silk scarf they sent me by Lenan Pearl of Silk made by craftsman Simon Lenan. What an amazing color and can you believe this particular scarf took as many as five months to make? Depending on the complexity of the design, it can take anywhere from one month to one year to finish a batik piece. What a craft that’s so overlooked…I take pride in wearing pieces like this, you know?
Right now it’s beginning to be the perfect fall weather here in the southern U.S. Goodbye, steamy summer! So I can’t wait to throw this scarf on with, oh, everything?! To be honest, I wasn’t aware of the batik cloth until this campaign developed, and now I’m a major fan and supporter. Here’s a little more about batik:

Sorry Deanna! I just updated the post. I found out they are no longer using a voting system, but choosing the two winners. Peeptoes crossed! 🙂
