Catching up with Celeb Stylist Tara Swennen
Ah, I’m squealing right now, and for once it’s not over my new peeptoes! This week I was able to catch up with celeb stylist Tara Swennen in the midst of her busy sched. Tara’s a major player in the celeb world of fashion (her client list reads like a “Who’s Who of Hollywood.”). So check out what she had to say on everything from working with Rachel Zoe to her favorite pair of heels (OMG)!
IHH: Who she’s styling now…
TS: Kristen Stewart, Gabrielle Union, Julie Bowen, Taraji Henson and Lauren Conrad.
IHH: On styling herself…
TS: I think most stylists wear a uniform daily as we spend so much time looking after others that we do focus less on ourselves. We, of course, have to maintain our image and stay on trend, but simultaneously need our look to also be functional.
IHH: Deets on the fab white pantsuit she wore at her wedding reception (she just got married!)…
TS: My jumpsuit was custom-made for me by Daniela Kurrle who is an amazing seamstress and costume designer out here in Los Angeles!
IHH: What she might wear to a casual lunch with her husband…
TS: I would wear jeans, a Vince sweater and a pair of old Converse.
IHH: Her thoughts on the denim leggings (or “jeggings”) trend…
TS: I honestly still don’t know how I feel about the denim leggings trend. All I know is I definitely can’t pull it off! 🙂
IHH: On working with Rachel Zoe…
TS: It was a wonderful learning experience. I learned the keys to red carpet elegance from her after assisting Andrea Lieberman for years in New York, while also learning the creativity of costume design and high-concept fashion. Between the two, I got the best of both worlds. I met both women through The Margaret Maldonado Agency.
IHH: On red carpet anxiety…
TS: It is true that there can be a lot of red carpet criticism these days. I truly love the art of fashion, though, so I always warn my clients that if a look is risky, it might get panned by the media. But, if they are willing to go for it and feel spectacular, then I absolutely encourage it!
IHH: And, of course, her favorite pair of heels…
TS: Any Christian Louboutin with my key comfort secret, “Airplus for Her” gel insoles inside!
