Lucky’s Executive Fashion Director Alexis Bryan Morgan Hearts Heels, Too
As someone who almost moved to New York circa 2003 (I was one phone call away from an apartment lease in Brooklyn) to work in magazines (I interned in magazines there circa 2002), I completely look up to Alexis Bryan Morgan. After all, she’s a fashion magazine superstar! Alexis is the Executive Fashion Director at Lucky Magazine, and this past September (after months of following her on Twitter), I was finally able to meet her! She’s just as much of a gem in person (and let me tell you, she can wear a printed pant like no other…), and I’m so excited to have her on I Heart Heels today talking about her fav cities, shopping and, duh, shoes. (Hey, Alexis, you’re reading *this* blog every morning, right?!)
I Heart Heels: You grew up in the south, so tell us all about how you transplanted to New York. Did you move after college? What was your first job?
Alexis Bryan Morgan: I moved to NYC to go to a graduate program at NYU. I got sidetracked by the fashion industry after getting an internship at Tommy Hilfiger and never finished my degree.
“I’m addicted to Givenchy shoes. It’s kind of a problem. They just really speak to me.” — Alexis Bryan Morgan, Executive Fashion Director at Lucky Magazine
IHH: Where are three places you love to shop?
ABM: I love shopping at Zara, H&M and Joe Fresh. It’s so much fun to find amazing things and not break the bank!
IHH: What’s the shoe brand you wear the most and why?
ABM: Ugh, I’m addicted to Givenchy shoes. It’s kind of a problem. They just really speak to me. Manolo and Prada shoes are also tough on my bank account. But I do think the shoes make or break an outfit and if you’re going to spend a little more money on clothes, spend it on the accessories.
IHH: What’s a typical day like for you at Lucky?
ABM: I try to start the day reading WWD and a few blogs. It’s so important to be up on the news. My job is definitely not a desk job and I’m running around the city on appointments at least a few times a day or walking from the art department to the fashion closet and back again. Yes, my feet always hurt!
IHH: Since you travel a lot, what’s your favorite place to visit?
ABM: Paris. Always Paris…
IHH: Your figure is so enviable – how do you stay so trim – diet, exercise?
ABM: Oh, you think? Thanks! I eat small frequent meals, and I really think a lot of it has to do with the nature of my job. I’m always running up subway stairs and walking many city blocks. I think NYC living keeps you thin.
