Spray Tan 101 from Stylist Jeni Elizabeth

Anyone wanna talk spray tans today? I do, I do! The lovely celebrity stylist/style expert Jeni Elizabeth was so gracious enough to stop by and give us a 411 on one of summer's hottest trends. And, let me tell you, she's def an expert (hello, she's the stylist and friend of the Jersey Shore cast!). Recently, Jeni's found a new spray tan love in JoJo McCarthy, owner of Brown Buns Airbrush Spray Tan (and yup, Jenny McCarthy's sis!) and who's worked with endless celebs. Not orange, doesn't smell, affordable and she comes to your home? And they just started offering 100-percent organic spray tans? Um, hello, sign me up. Does JoJo make road trips, perhaps??

I Heart Heels: What do you love about a good spray tan?
Jeni Elizabeth:
I'm a huge fan of the spray tan. There's absolutely something about it that makes me feel amazing! My personal feeling is that it can give you a healthy natural glow, and it makes you look toned and thinner. I love the definition that it can give you in your legs (with those perfect Louboutins, of course!) and arms, nevermind the sprayed-on abs! These days all women want to do things that make them feel better about themselves, and this is a temporary fix that makes you smile. And to be honest, with Jojo it's fun - the perfect gossip session time.

IHH: Do you think having a spray tan in the winter looks odd, or do you embrace it year round?
JE:
I embrace it year around! People go in tanning beds year round, so why can't they get sprayed year round? I do believe there's a limit. For example, in the summer I love to have a spray tan that's super dark, as if I've had the time to be by the pool all day! Whereas in the winter, I don't go as dark. It's important to have moderation, as with anything. However with winter white being so big this fall, I couldn't be more excited for my tan!

IHH: I always wear the oddest things to/from my spray tans since they suggest loose-fitting, dark clothing. What do you wear?
JE: I tend to just wear my sweats. Also, with Brown Buns, nothing stains your clothing, so generally I don't worry about it. If I'm in the middle of my work day, Jojo will take the time to make sure that I'm completely dry before getting dressed (with her heat blower...love it!). I try to always wear a loose t-shirt and a pair of sweat pants. I would say the only "no-no" would be white. Other than that, everything washes out.

IHH: How often do you spray tan? What about the cast of Jersey Shore?
JE:
In a perfect world, I would spray once a week. Unfortunately, things get a little crazy at times, but the more the better! Jojo comes right to my house, and the whole process is over in 15 minutes. I don't think you could ask for a better set-up!

I can't tell you exactly how many times a week the Jersey Shore cast tans, but I can tell you that it's something that's taken very seriously! In general, the idea is really just about maintaining yourself and taking a ton of pride in how you look, and that's a general rule everyone should live by.

IHH: Have you ever had a spray tan mistake, and, if so, how did you fix it?
JE:
I, for sure, have had mistakes! I've left spray tanning sessions (more than once) a lovely shade of orange. I've also suffered from tan in my cuticles and weird marks on my hands. My technique was scrubbing with a soft scrub to remove it, but it's horrible for your skin! Since I started using Brown Buns, I've never had that issue. Jojo takes the time to wipe down your nails, your hands and your feet. I'm not sure there's anyone in the world who hasn't tried spray tanning and had some sort of bad experience; it's all about finding the perfect match, and the perfect tanner!
